The University of Indianapolis faculty-directed production of Neil Labute's The Shape of Things was selected to participate in the 40th annual Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, hosted by Cardinal Stritch and Marquette Universities in Milwaukee, Wisconsin January 8-13, 2008. The company of over 30 cast, crew, faculty, and staff spent a productive six days at the festival. Students Jeffrey Dalstrom and his partner, Kathryn Reinhardt, and Alex Oberheide and his partner, Chelsey Wood, represented the University of Indianapolis in the Irene Ryan Acting Competition and advanced to the final round of 16 out of over 270 competitors. Chelsea Anderson and her partner Lucas Souder, Karla Carter and her partner Stephanie Kucsera, and Ryan O'Shea and her partner Emma Davis also represented UIndy well in the competition. Student designer David West competed for the Barbizon Awards for Theatrical Design Excellence. The Shape of Things company loaded in, performed, and loaded-out the production, which played two well-attended performances. Directed by UIndy faculty member, Cate Moran, The Shape of Things was one of only eleven shows chosen from among 35 college productions in a five state region to be performed at KC/ACTF's Region III festival. The production was originally performed in The University of Indianapolis Studio Theatre in April, 2007.
