Alpha Psi Omega was organized as an honorary dramatic fraternity for the purpose of providing an honor society for those doing a high standard of work in dramatics and, through the expansion of Alpha Psi Omega among the colleges and universities, to provide a wider fellowship for those interested in the college theatre. The fraternity is not intended to take the place of the regular dramatic club or other producing groups, but as students qualify, they are rewarded by election to membership in this society.
Participation in theatre work at the University of Indianapolis for a minimum of two semesters.

The Alpha Psi Omega chapter sponsors or helps produce a number of events and activities throughout the academic year. ΑΨΩ works with PRIDE (the UIndy Gay/Straight alliance) to produce an annual Drag Show as a fundraiser for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. They also participate in the university Thanksgiving Food Drive, produces Café Dionysus, an annual open mic/talent show, and sponsor the annual Senior Recognition Banquet at the end of the school year. ΑΨΩ is an official RSO (Registered Student Organization) on campus.
Alpha Psi Omega sponsors the Rising Achiever Award which is presented to a freshman theatre major who exemplifies what the University of Indianapolis Department of Theatre respresents: passion, hard work, commitment, and family. The recipient of this award, selected by active members of UIndy's chapter of ΑΨΩ, is a freshman who is a leader among his/her class and who goes above and beyond what is expected. He/she is unafraid to accept a challenge, and constantly and enthusiastically explores new avenues in his/her career in college theatre at UIndy - and does so with an inspiring positivity. Past award recipients are listed HERE.
Officers are elected each year from within the active ΑΨΩ member pool. They are elected by all members by an anonymous vote after a nomination. They can be self-nominated or peer-nominated. After a nomination, the nominee may accept or deny the nomination then members vote by ballot.
