Students do not need to audition in order to be a Theatre major--if you are accepted by the University, you merely have to declare Theatre as your major. The Department of Theatre does have auditions/portfolio reviews scheduled throughout the academic year for Theatre Scholarships. The Department awards numerous scholarships to incoming students every year, which can be as much as one quarter tuition. The final dollar amount of your scholarship will depend on other factors in your financial aid package such as the receipt of Music or Speech Team scholarships, etc.
The award of Theatre scholarships is based on an audition/interview process and is available to full-time Theatre majors and Theatre Teaching majors. Theatre scholarships are renewable for eight full-time semesters contingent on active participation in all major productions and maintaining at least a 2.5 grade point average.
Performers should prepare 2 two-minute contrasting monologues that demonstrate their range. Design/Tech students should prepare a four to five minute presentation of their portfolio. A videotaped audition/interview is acceptable if you live a distance from campus.
We encourage you to combine your audition/portfolio presentation with a campus visit arranged through the Office of Admissions. These visits include a campus tour and meetings with an Admissions counselor, Financial Aid, and faculty members.
Furthermore, the scholarship audition/portfolio presentation dates typically coincide with a UIndy Department of Theatre production. For information about receiving complimentary tickets for a performance, contact Brad Wright, Director of Theatre at (317) 788-3226 or email@example.com.
We are also excited to be a partner with Acceptd, an online network connecting applicants with performing arts programs. You may submit an online audition or portfolio through this service. Please click the button to begin your online submission.
