One of Shakespeare’s great comedies, The Comedy of Errors follows two sets of twins, Antipholus of Ephesus and Antipholus of Syracuse, and Dromio of Ephesus and Dromio of Syracuse. Dromio of Ephesus is the slave of Antipholus of Ephesus, and Dromio of Syracuse is the slave of Antipholus of Syracuse. Antipholus of Ephesus is unaware that he has a twin brother, and Dromio of Ephesus is unaware that he also has a twin brother. Farcical mix-ups occur when the twins all meet in Ephesus. Their journey and eventual reunion explore themes of reality, time, coincidence, and love.

Studio Theatre

Outstanding theatre students direct one-acts or scenes of their choice. Productions are typically fully staffed and designed by students, who use these productions as a laboratory experience, putting into practice the principles they have learned in the classroom. Working closely with members of the faculty and staff, the students will select, cast and direct the plays and supervise the lighting, design and construction for the productions.

Ransburg Auditorium

When three gods come to earth in search of a thoroughly good person, they encounter Shen Teh, a goodhearted but penniless prostitute, who offers them shelter. Rewarded with enough money to open a tobacco shop, the “Angel of the Slums” Shen Teh soon becomes so overwhelmed by the demands of people seeking assistance that she invents a male alter ego, “Tobacco King” Shui Ta, to deal ruthlessly with the business of living in an evil world. One of Bertolt Brecht’s most celebrated works, this intercultural play blends his fascination with Chinese theatricality, German politics, and American detective novels into a fastmoving, comic consideration of Right and Wrong in the real world. i
